You are no longer gaining levels. And for that matter all the expansions your still just level 80. I realize you go into different specializations. But you lose that sense of progression. Your level up masteries instead. You have nearly 500 of those so enjoy. After that, they are used for spirit shards.

The game is actually best as a new player, because that's where all the good content is. And there's a truckload of it. After you're done with the Path of Fire expansion it's all downhill, largely due to the original devs leaving the team. Enjoy the incredible base game and the two great expansions.
It's basically the game as is was released 2012, plus a lot of improvements since then. Leveling to max level and main story will get you 50-100 hours probably depending on how you like to play. Then you have Dungeons, Fractals, WvW, PvP, all those modes are accessible to you, that's thousands of hours depending on what you like.
So new players or anyone on a free account would need to buy some sort of bundle which includes the core game features and that would have a level 80 boost, but existing players could just buy the new 'mini expansion' which is cheaper but doesn't come with anything else.
